Just who is Dave Mackie?
Between 1978 and 1984, Dave Mackie set over 60 National Records and was five-time National Champion in some very tough competitive classes, racing against all comers. Dave Mackie is the only man in DRAGBIKE® history to deliver the Stock Eliminator Championship to Harley-Davidson, and was the first man into the 10’s with a stock displacement engine. In August of 2020, Dave Mackie was inducted into the Sturgis Motorcycle Hall of Fame, located in Sturgis, South Dakota.
Dave credits his long association with Rivera/Primo with a lot of his success. He used an Eliminator SU carburetor, and a Primo belt drive during his racing career.
Beginning in the early eighties Dave performed custom porting and polishing on Harley heads. Some of his accomplishments include:
- Dave Mackie Engineering cylinder heads were utilized on Easyrider Magazine’s Harley-Davidson powered Streamliner when it attained the title, “World’s Fastest Motorcycle” by travelling at 322 MPH at the Bonneville Salt Flats, and it is still the World’s fastest Harley Davidson.
- Dave Mackie Engineering headwork was a key component of Bob “Rat” Taft’s motorcycle when it became the world’s “First 8-second Harley-Davidson Motorcycle” powered by gasoline.
- Dave Mackie Engineering headwork also has helped win several Sturgis “King of the Hill” dynamometer competitions.
While Dave no longer provides headwork services, he is happy to bring his award-winning camshafts to a greater audience through this website.
